Insatiable by Meg Cabot: Post-Release ARC Review

Meg Cabot will WOW the paranormal reading community with this gem! From quirky comedy and intense romance to moderately grotesque violence, Insatiable has it all!

My Synopsis
Meena, resident of the BIG City and screen writer, thought her life was ok. Nothing too spectacular... unless you consider the fact that with one look into your eyes, she can tell you when and how you are going to die. You see, Meena has a very unique form of precognition. This “gift” has always made her feel like a freak and for years she has had to endure vicious name calling and rejection by her peers. If you were to ask Meena directly, she’d say this ability was a curse, not a gift.

All Meena truly ever wanted was to become head writer for Insatiable, one of the country’s longest running, and still most popular, soap operas.  With the new pitch she’s cooked up, she is certain the promotion is in the bag! Imagine her surprise when not only does Soshana (typical corporate airhead) get the promotion, she’s got big plans for introducing a vampire angle into the Insatiable story line. Vampires? Seriously? Talk about jumping on the bandwagon! UGH! According to Meena, vampires are nothing but mythological misogynistic monsters and she is SO not on board with this entire idea. There goes the show, and there goes any hopes Meena had of capturing the coveted Head Writers position.

But, why vampires? And why Shoshanna?  Up until now, Shoshana has never even been in the office long enough to handle the work she had, let alone the workload involved with a Head position. As it is, Meena is forever completing and submitting Shoshana’s work. So what gives?  Regardless, Meena has devised a plan to counteract Shoshana’s pitch. She’s going to write in a “princely” vampire slayer to sweep the leading lady off her feet and save the day! And, Meena has the perfect man in mind of who she feels she can draw great reference from to create the prefect character!

Lucien Antonescue is Meena’s very own prince who’s “swept in” and “saved the day”…err, night rather!  He’s dashing, debonair, and outrageously hot! Not only can Meena NOT see his death (which is weird, but is also a refreshing break from the usual), but he actually saved Meena from a vicious attack by a colony of bats! Lucien is Meena’s “dreamboy”. He’s all she’s ever wanted in a man. There’s nothing more she could want from a lover. Heck, she’s even considering moving to Romania just to stay close to him...Too bad her precognitive talents don’t work on her own future. It might have saved her from nightmare and heartache!

My Thoughts
Readers will be kept thoroughly intrigued by each turn of events and may even find themselves flipping back through the pages for clarifications and asking themselves “How did I miss that”!

Insatiable, quite interestingly, references a few historical figures, both real and mythological, on a level that nicely adds to the plot line, and are also clearly conveyed so that even those who are not “up to speed” can grasp the intended purpose of the reference.

From Joan of Arc to Dracula, Insatiable has many interesting twists and takes that will keep readers on their toes.  In fact, there’s one particular event, or twist rather, that really took this reader by surprise! End result, very cool!

In closing, I would like to take a moment to mention that this I am not entirely certain I liked the way the story left off. Yet again, I’m also not entirely certain that I didn’t. Hmm…I am a wee bit conflicted on this point (lol, obviously) and can only hope this will be remedied soon! (Sequel currently set to be released 2011)

From the Publisher
Sick of hearing about vampires? So is Meena Harper.

But her bosses are making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn't believe in them.

Not that Meena isn't familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you're going to die. (Not that you're going to believe her. No one ever does.)

But not even Meena's precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets—then makes the mistake of falling in love with—Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side. It's a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire hunters, would prefer to see him dead for.

The problem is, Lucien's already dead. Maybe that's why he's the first guy Meena's ever met whom she could see herself having a future with. See, while Meena's always been able to see everyone elses future, she's never been able look into her own.

And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare.

Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future. . . .

If she even has one.

A deliciously twisted modern-day sequel to Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula.

In Praise of "Angel of Death: Book One of the Chosen

“...one of the best stories by a new and upcoming writer that I have read...This tale was wonderfully written. Every character has a complete and utterly unique personality...The Angel of Death will make you smile, and it will cause your heart to break. Very few stories are the equal to this tale. When you read this story, have a box of tissues handy. Ms. Dales I am trying to await the next installment patiently, and it is not working out so well.” - Siren Book Reviews (5 out of 5)

"...a poignant and epic tale... a brilliant example of good overcoming and prevailing against evil and prejudice... an emotional ride of literary genius, both heart-warming and heartbreaking at the same time..." - Bitten By Books (5 out of 5)

"a grand tale of eternal life and its many challenges... I greatly enjoyed Angel of Death by Karen Dales and ... recommend it..." - Two Lips Reviews (5 out of 5)
"I would definitely recommend this book to vampire fans.. a good solid read for both Changeling and Angel of Death... I’m definitely looking forward to where Dales goes with this in the future." - Once Upon A Bookshelf

"This is a mature book, and it's probably that reason that makes it easy to enjoy it as much as I did. It's nice to get involved in a story that has multiple layers and depth to it....The book reads fast because Karen never lets it slow down." - Ruth Ann Nordin, Author.

Ms Dales, when not at a panel, reading or signing, can be found at her table.

Summer Release! Siren's Call by Devyn Quinn!

Between desire and love there are some things that can’t stay buried, even in the deep of the ocean.

As a woman with a secret, lighthouse keeper Tessa Lonike savors her solitude on the island of Little Mer, off the coast of Maine. During a violent storm, Tessa spots a man thrashing in the ice cold waters and dives in to save him, using her ability as a mermaid to easily pull him to shore.
When Kenneth Randall awakens on the beach he is alone, left with the haunting memory of his beautiful, flame-haired savior. But a year later, when Kenneth meets her again, he’s determined not to let Tessa slip away.  Just as the desire between them begins to burn, Tessa’s archaeologist ex-lover comes back to town with a tantalizing clue to her murky heritage.

The trio travel to the Mediterranean in search of answers, and when Tessa inadvertently opens an underwater portal they find a lost mermaid city. But in the deep, not everything is as it seems, and Tessa must decide if she wants to take her place as the royal heir, or follow the call of her heart…

“Siren’s Call is a thoroughly mesmerizing ride — Quinn throws open the doors to an unbelievable world where nothing is as expected. At once terrifying and fascinating and unbelievably entertaining, this is a book you won’t forget.” -Kate Douglas, bestselling author of Wolf Tales & The DemonSlayers

Debut Author Spotlight: Stacey Kennedy & “The Magical Sword Series”

Good after noon friends! Today I'd like to "pass the mike" over to Stacey Kennedy, debuting author of “The Magical Sword Series”.  Book 1 in the series, "The Willow", is set for eBook release with Liquid Silver Books and will be followed soon by a print release!  Take a peek at the excerpt of The Willow here for a taste of what we can expect from Stacey!

Also on the roster for releases this summer is "A Deadly Whisper" Book 1 in  "The Watchers" series released date unknown (summer/fall 2010) is an ebook with Cobblestone Press and will NOT be coming out in print.

So, with out further adieu, let's get started!!...

So Stacey? As a debuting author, can you please share some of your experience?

Becoming a published author is an emotional roller coaster to say the least.  It comes with lows―lots of them―but it also comes with unbelievable highs.  When you read the line “We would like to offer publication...” your heart stops, your breath is gone and you re-read it a thousand times to make sure you are seeing it right.

When I started “The Magical Sword Series”, it all came from one idea.  One woman brought into the Otherworld, a journey of finding herself, discovering her abilities, becoming lost in danger and, of course, mixed with a delicious romance too.   Never writing a novel in my life, it wasn’t any easy task.  The first in the series, “The Willow”, took the longest to write.  I spent six months writing and re-writing.  But when it was all said and done, a novel was born.

From there, it was a snap.  The other three came with ease as Nexi demanded her story be told.  Didn’t matter what I planned for the novel, the story always took me in another direction.  Eventually, I gave up trying to set the story in stone.  I just wrote and wrote and wrote, until suddenly, I had four novels completed.

Then, it was onto getting published.  Rejections came quickly.  It is the very worst part of the process.  You doubt, you edit the manuscript, you question throwing it out, but then one day an email from Liquid Silver Books began my writing career.

Starting in July, I’ll have a release come out every month until probably the end of the year.  I cannot put into words the excitement I feel that I get to share these stories with you.  The characters in all my novels have consumed my life and become close friends.

This past month has been a whirlwind of emotions as both “The Willow - The Magical Sword Book One” (Liquid Silver Books) and “A Deadly Whisper – The Watchers Book One” (Cobblestone Press) have come up for edits. Nothing is more incredible than seeing the story you love come together in a pretty shiny package.

So, my advice to you, if you have a dream to write, to tell a story, then all I can say is DO IT!  Because anything and everything is possible!!!

Thanks Everyone! I've enjoyed sharing some of my experiences with you!
Stacey Kennedy

Thank you Stacey! You've shared some great information with our readers and I am certain we are all looking forward to your releases this year!

Now, just for a little more background info, I've received permission from Stacey to share content from her site so that we might get to know her and her works better!

Meet Stacey (as seen on Stacey's Site)
I love the paranormal romance genre and love a series more!! Nothing can hook me in more than an adventure and one that keeps on going. I love a page turner, one where I’m up at a ridiculous time and my eyes burn because I can’t stop reading. Witty characters, dominant men, danger, action, romance and hot sex―oh my!

My novels are heavy in fantasy, heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.  I’m not a planner.  I don’t write with a set idea because no matter what I plan, the characters’ voices always come through and demand I listen to them. So, I gave up trying to fight it!

The journey as a writer all began when I was a teen and wrote poetry, which still to this day I pull out to have a good laugh.  Later on, I tried a couple of times to put a book together with no such luck.  Couldn’t ever get past the first few chapters.  But once I was exposed to the paranormal world, ideas came quickly.

At first, it was a way to keep my brain alive since being a stay at home mom can be a little let’s say―numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty.  It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion. Now, I indulge at nap time, especially the juicy bits! Every mom needs a good thrill!

So here in Kitchener, Ontario, I am a thirty one year old wife, mom, house cleaner, cook, teacher, play-doh extraordinaire, swing pusher, toddler chaser after – who loves the outdoors, curling up with the latest flick, and if I’m not plugging away at a new novel, I’ve got my nose buried deep in a good book.  So there it is―my life!

I’d love to hear your comments!  Please follow me on my blog.

Stacey :)

Event Details Excerpt Courtesy of Cynthia Eden:

It’s almost time for my summer party.  My Deadly Days are nearly here!

This summer, my blog will be a non-stop party zone.  June is the paranormal month for the party (as I eagerly get ready for the release of I’LL BE SLAYING YOU). Then, on July 1, we’ll switch things up–and July will be the month of romantic suspense as I gear up for the release of my first romantic suspense novel, DEADLY FEAR.

I’ve invited a ton of fabulous authors to help me celebrate the Deadly Days.  So you can anticipate greats posts, awesome prizes, and fun all summer long!  There are going to be so many ways to win prizes this summer! Check out all the details at Cynthia's Blog!
