Exited to hear that this wonderful author has started a new series, Starlighter has been on my wish list for a while! And, courtesy of the wonderful ladies of the Harper Collins Canada Promotions Department, I received a copy to review! Woot Woot!
Reviewer Synopsis
Major Four, a world inhabited by humans and whose very way of life is remnant of our Medieval Times, has a “Legend”. This “Legend” is a fantastical story shared by many, but only truly discussed by few. According to believers, over 100 years ago a gateway was opened between this world and another, Dracon. Dragons came and men, women, and children alike, were kidnapped and returned to Dracon; enslaved to serve in a world of beasts. But, Governor Prescott has deemed the “Legend” too ridiculous to have happened! Prescott has gone so far as to make even the mention of this topic punishable by law, forcing believers to form “Underground Gateway” organizations whose members are determined to find said Gateway and rescue Major Four’s “Lost Ones”.
Starlight (aka Dracon) is a planet half way across the universe and inhabited by Dragons. All-powerful and, in general, fierce beasts whose continued existence rests on the frail shoulders of the humans who server them. You see, the good health of the Dragons of Starlight depend on an atmosphere rich with Pheterone. But, over 100 years ago Starlight began to lose this precious resource. An “Explorer” was sent out into the universe to find an alternative place to live. This “Explorer” found Darksphere (aka Major Four), but found its atmosphere also unsuitable. He did, however, find a species whose nimbleness and dexterity could be of great use to the inhabitants of his home. As you can imagine, the Dragons of Starlight were too big to mine into their world’s interior to release the much needed Pheterone. It was with this purpose in mind that “The Explorer” kidnapped many humans from Darksphere and brought them back to Starlight to serve as slaves.
My Thoughts
Starlighter is the story of how one boy (Jason) from Major Four and one girl (Koren) from Starlight display a fierce determination and bravery in their quest to not only learn the truth, but to defeat the Dragons of Starlight. Although from two completely different worlds, Jason and Koren, ultimately, are on the same adventure. They seek the same truths, the same justices, and the same freedoms.
Complete with a wonderful cast of supporting characters and page flipping plot lines, Starlighter is Young Adult Science Fiction at its Finest! Bryan Davis is sure to capture readers of all ages with this enchanting tale of a young boy’s journey to save the “Lost Ones” and a young girl’s devotion to truth and freedom!

Harper Collins Publishers (Zondervan)
Dragons are enslaving humankind and a black egg signals the end of the world. Jason Masters must journey to another realm and join forces with a slave girl named Koren to rescue the captives and save two worlds from destruction. What if the Legends Are True? Jason Masters doubted the myths: people taken through a portal to another realm and enslaved by dragons. But when his brother is taken, he must uncover the truth and find the portal before it's too late. Once he's through the portal, he meets Koren, a slave in the dragons realm, who struggles to destroy a black egg prophesied to doom all mankind. Jason and Koren must work together to save their two worlds before the dragons learn that their secrets have been discovered. In Starlighter, bestselling author Bryan Davis masterfully weaves fantasy and inspiration into a captivating novel for young adults.
