Of course, another great read from Ms. Keyon. Tortured souls, hot, hot “bods” and an innocent Justice Nymph make for another great page turner!
Astrid touched parts of him he’d never known existed. His Heart. His Soul. She took him to heights unimaginable. Here in her arms, for the first time, he felt peace. Pg. 158
As the illegitimate son of a Roman General, Zarek faced countless brutalities as the family “whipping boy”. Used and abused since birth, Zarek never knew love or kindness of any kind. His was a lifetime of brutality and unimaginable torture at the hands of his father and brothers. Sold into slavery once his father tired of him, a scarred and broken Zarek was killed by his master after being falsely accused of raping his mistress. In the after life, Artemis claimed Zarek for her legion of Dark Hunters and Acheron removed his scars and disabilities…. Well, the ones you could see, at least.
After centuries of judging immortals and humans alike, Astrid is numb. Feelings of compassion, joy and happiness have become non existent after judging so many over the centuries and not yet finding even one soul innocent. As a favor to her good friend Acheron, Astrid agrees to judge one last man, er Dark Hunter. Encouragement from Acheron to take this assignment leaves Astrid thinking there is some significant reason behind his request.

Interference from Artemis places Zarek in Astrid’s care. He doesn’t know what or who she really is. All he knows is that for some unknown reason this single, blind female is willing to care for him, put him up for a few days until the weather clears. But why? Has she no fear? As far a Zarek knows, Astrid doesn’t have a clue how dangerous a position she is in. He needs to leave. He can’t stay with her when Thanatos (the invincible Day Slayer) is after him. It’s too dangerous!
Trust, compassion and kindness are “alien” emotions for Zarek. His tortured human life has left him cold, empty and very angry…. Emotionally scarred beyond repair…Or is he? Will Astrid find any good in Zarek? Is there even a shred of humanity left within this man that would allow her to judge him innocent and therefore free?
A story full of emotion, change and forgiveness, Zarek’s story is the 1st of the DH Series to touch me on such a level. Ms. Keyon has such an eloquent way with description that this reader could actually feel a physical pull into the story. I laughed, I cried, and I even hurt. As I have been know to say: “Kudos to Kenyon on another fascinating read!”
